Institute for Outdoor Learning: January 2023
This annual conference was held in Ambleside at the University of Cumbria. In the capacity of social prescriber, I led a group of outdoor enthusiasts in a Nature Art Journaling workshop. The course blended meditation, careful exploration of nature, creative writing and art techniques as tools to help people unlock their creativity and encourage them to 'play'.
Age in Place: Creating Better Places for Us All
In collaboration with the Creative Practice Research Academy and Institute for Citizenship, Society and Change at UCLan, I hosted an event that brought together health and social care professionals, academics and creative practitioners to create pathways for further networking and research opportunities. The event was opened by Cllr Joan Burrows, Champion for Older People and our speakers included Nicola Waterworth from Ageing in Place at Greater Manchester Ageing Hub who is working with neighbourhoods to support older people to live well for longer with better health and connections in their own community; and Sue Egersdorff who set up the charity Ready Generations in 2019 to encourage connections between people of different ages, particularly the very young and the very old. Workshops were led by Ann Vanner who took the group outside to explore the soundscape around Lancashire County Hall and Preston Railway Station to explore how sound has changed over the last few years; and Helen Gould who led participants through a series of movements designed to get them to notice their body, bringing awareness to the space in which they exist.
